| Carl-Harry Stalhane 1920-1990 |
| Carl-Harry Stalhane was trained as a painter and sculptor in Stockholm and Paris. He continued his studies in Spain, Greece, Turkey, the United States, and Mexico. He is considered one of Sweden's leading ceramic artists. |
| At the age of 19 in 1939 he was hired by Rostrand pottery in Sweden to paint stoneware. He rose quickly to become the art director and chief designer for the firm. By the early 1940Ős his work had attracted international attention. He specialized in, mat glazed, earthy stoneware that was inspired by the Chinese Sung tradition. |
| By 1951 he had won a diploma of honor at the prestigious Milan Triennale and the 1954 Milan Triennale awarded him a gold medal for his designs. While continuing at Rostrand, between 1963 and 1971 he was a senior ceramics instructor at The School of Arts and Crafts at Goteberg |
| In 1973, with the assistance of Kent Ericsson, he opened his own design studio called the Designhuset. It was at this time that he left Rostrand. While he did not throw his own pots during this period he did produce all the incised decoration and glazing. |
| His work is included in the permanent collections of The National Museum in Stockholm, The Danish Museum of Decorative Art in Copenhagen and the Museum of Modern Art in New York |
